This delightful piece of history was at risk of being lost to developers, but thanks to the dedicated efforts of passionate supporters, it has found new life.

Nestled in the picturesque village of Angus, this cottage holds a special place in the hearts of motorcycle enthusiasts everywhere. It was here that William C. Davidson, who emigrated to America in 1857, laid the foundation for a legacy that would shape the world of motorcycles. Alongside his children—Arthur, Walter, and William—he partnered with the young visionary William Harley to create the iconic Harley-Davidson company.

After years of thoughtful restoration by devoted bikers, who transformed the once-derelict property into a beautiful re-creation of a mid-nineteenth-century home, the cottage was once again put on the market. This prompted the formation of the Davidson Legacy Preservation Group, which rallied support and secured a matching grant from the UK government’s Community Ownership Fund. However, to make the dream a reality, they needed to raise over £300,000.

In an inspiring three-year campaign, the community came together, with individuals and groups generously contributing. Just when it seemed they might fall short, the Harley-Davidson Company stepped in to provide the final funding needed to make this dream come true.
