Hilda Jackson, a vibrant and spirited individual, recently marked her 105th birthday with a joyous celebration that truly embodied her zest for life. With a heart full of excitement, Hilda expressed her wish to host a rave, and her caregivers went above and beyond to make it happen at the Holbrook Hall Care Home in Derbyshire, England.
Last Tuesday, the hall transformed into a lively dance floor as Hilda traded her walker for glowsticks and UV paint, welcoming a DJ who brought an infectious energy to the gathering. Surrounded by cheerful staff and fellow residents, Hilda and her guests celebrated with classic dance tunes, a delightful open bar, and plenty of laughter.
Hilda, surrounded by family and friends, swayed to the rhythm of the music, savoring a refreshing gin and tonic while soaking in the joyful atmosphere. Her warm heart was evident as she received over 250 birthday cards from well-wishers, including a special note from King Charles himself. With a gleeful spirit, she proclaimed, “I love a party, so I’m going to be raving. I’ve enjoyed every minute of my life, which I intend to keep on doing while I can.”
Reflecting on her remarkable journey, Hilda shared her gratitude for reaching such a milestone. “I never thought I’d get to this age, but fortunately I’m here, and I’m grateful.” The celebration included a special performance by Nottingham rapper Bru-C, who wrote a rap just for Hilda, adding an extra touch of joy to her special day.
While drinks flowed, many guests opted for soft drinks, enjoying the festive atmosphere. Hilda, the cherished oldest resident of the care home, delighted in reminiscing about her love for tennis, which she credited as a key to her long and fulfilling life. “I just keep on and on, while I can, and take the day as it comes,” she shared with a smile.
Her life story is filled with love and adventure, having traveled widely and enjoyed dancing holidays with her late sister, Vera, for over 63 years. Hilda has witnessed a remarkable 22 different Prime Ministers and continued to drive until she was 100 years old.
Care home manager Rebecca Wass noted Hilda's enthusiasm for dancing and living life to the fullest, attributing her rave idea to a popular TV show. Hilda’s cheeky spirit and boundless energy inspire everyone around her. Her timeless advice to fellow seniors is simple yet profound: “Just keep on—keep batting.”
Hilda's celebration is a beautiful reminder that age is merely a number, and life is meant to be embraced with joy and passion.
